Panelist - Scambusters

As a solo practitioner specializing in transactional work in the music and entertainment industries, Chip represents a diverse group of recording artists, songwriters, producers, music publishers and new media companies in connection with the protection, acquisition, sale and other exploitation of their intellectual property portfolios, including copyrights, trademarks, patents and trade secrets. As General Manager and Vice President of Copyright Exchange, LLC, Chip is responsible for the day-to-day operations and legal and business affairs of a company that provides comprehensive marketing, negotiating, accounting and administrative services to buyers, sellers, brokers, dealers and others interested in the buying and selling of music-related copyright catalogs.

A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Chip earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from Davidson College (1993) and his law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law (1997). Following internships at the RIAA and BMG Entertainment, he moved to Nashville in 1997 to join the law firm of Frank & Frank, where he worked under the tutelage of industry veteran Richard Frank. Chip later joined CBS Cable/MTV Networks as Counsel to CMT and TNN before moving to San Francisco to practice transactional law in Silicon Valley with the firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges. In 2002, Chip returned to Nashville to practice law as an associate in the Music Row office of Stokes Bartholomew Evans and Petree (no relation) until January 2004. Chip is licensed to practice law in California and Tennessee.
